After six weeks of studying in the Adult Education Program at the Kokomo Area Career Center, Victoria Snyder earned her high school equivalency diploma. Snyder is 32 years old, married, and has five children. While attending school, Snyder worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Indiana Veterans Home which requires 12.5-hour shifts. When asked if that was difficult, Snyder replied, “Yes! But what in life is easy?” The teachers of the Adult Education Program commend Snyder for her commitment to her education and her diligence in making her schoolwork a priority while juggling so many other responsibilities.
Snyder claims that she lacked the commitment to earn a diploma through a traditional school setting when she was younger, yet her current ambition is to become a registered nurse, so she knew that earning her high school diploma was the first step. The mathematics section of the test was troublesome for Snyder, as she took it a total of three times before enrolling as a student at KACC. Snyder claims, “I knew I couldn’t do it alone. I needed help.” She credits the “support and encouragement of the staff” as the best part of the program. She passed the math section on her fourth attempt.
As far as advice to others, Snyder advises, “Don’t give up no matter how you are feeling in any given moment! If you do the work and put in the time, you will pass.” Since graduating, Snyder has relocated to Idaho to assist with the COVID-19 crisis. In the future, she plans to attend college then travel as a RN for FEMA so she can give back to her community. Congratulations Victoria Snyder!
